BLUE ULTRAMER

BLUE ULTRAMER

Design and set-up of a visual arts exhibition on the subject of the sea at the Castella Centre for Art

Year:  2000
Client: Iofil, Agricole Indosuez

The set design for the exhibition starts out in a dream-like and indeterminate environment in the depths of the sea, in which the works of artists from the chapter “Sea monsters and other myths” are presented. The chapter “20,000 leagues below the sea” presents works of undersea photography, with the beauty of the poetic realism of the deep. The “Underwater Museum” contains works of 9 figurative painters, swimming in the translucent blue. The visual arts installation “Swim me” invited visitors to dive in and take play with the sea and the people.
The trajectory of the exhibition ends on a balcony with a view to the sea. Memories of the old summer open-air cinemas, with white pebbles and chairs and scenes from old Greek movies with seascapes, create a nostalgic atmosphere, from which arise figures of beloved girls, connected to the sea: Madalena, Aliki, Stella – muses of contemporary artists with objects and notes specially made for them.
